Cuco’s performance kicks off expanded season’s final weekend Sept. 20, 2024 at San Jose’s Plaza De Cesar Chavez

September 3, 2024—Music in the Park has announced that Welsh indie pop artist Strawberry Guy and modern soul band Thee Heart Tones will join indie pop artist Cuco at the September 20 show at San Jose’s Plaza de Cesar Chavez.

“We’re excited to push boundaries and bring fresh artists to San Jose music lovers with this indie triple-bill,” talent curator John Kastner said.

Cuco will play his first performance in San Jose in five years, returning to Music in the Park. Cuco sold out the park in 2019.. He has since become a rising star on the independent music recording and touring circuit, and will perform a sold out Mexican Independence Day show four days earlier in his hometown of Los Angeles at the Greek Theater

Strawberry Guy Alexander Morgan Stephens is described as a one-man impressionist, painting majestic soundscapes with lush arrangements to conjure new emotive worlds. He is currently based in Liverpool, England.

Strawberry Guy’s San Jose appearance, which will include a four-piece string section, is one of seven announced North American dates. His tour includes headlining shows in Montreal, Philadelphia, Atlanta and Nashville—and a sold-out show in Washington, D.C.

Previously the keyboardist for The Orielles, Stephens began creating music as “Strawberry Guy” in 2018 and released his debut EP Taking My Time to Be in 2019. He released his debut album Sun Outside My Window in October 2021.

Opening for Cuco and Strawberry Guy are Thee Heart Tones from Hawthorne, California, hometown of both Cuco and the Beach Boys, who played Music in the Park July 28. Thee Heart Tones’ members are all under 20 and the young group is already attracting a widespread following with its recent releases.

The weekend will continue with Bay Area Parent Kids Day in the Park on Saturday, Sept. 21 and returning favorite J Boog on Sunday, September 22.
